Living off grid no 8

7months of living off Grid and October saw a visit to  Tavistick Goosey Fair,  armed with chopping boards and other things to sell but alas most of the day was spent talking to visitor about the truck and living off grid.

Living off grid No 7 Autumn a time of plenty

6 months of living in the truck, now it seems strange staying in a house (a week spent house sitting for a friend in August)

A time of plenty

Ceps, Chanterelles and field mushrooms.

A collection of fungi gathered on a walk yesterday afternoon ( I won’t tell you where) some eaten for supper last night and the rest I am now drying for use in winter stews etc.

Hi to all, August  month 5 how time flies.

With a couple of weeks off to celebrate my 50 th birthday I thought it about time for firewood preparation for next winter, timber from a hedge lay carried out last winter/spring has sat in the yard in cord lengths (approx 4 feet long) for the last 6 months or so. One long days work carried out over 2 days (I am on holiday!)  and the end result as pictured below

A very satisfying sight. Logs! split and stacked, a wriggly tin cover will be put on top to keep the rain off. I am hoping this will be enough to see me through the winter, augmented with  remains from last year and a bit of roadside timber collecting.

Hi to all now nearly 4 months of my new life, with this weather off grid life is fantastic! Solar bag showers and hot sunshine being the perfect partner. Last month hot water for a shower produced  with a storm/gillie kettle (pictured below) an incredibly efficient way of heating hot water quickly and with minimal effort, just collecting a few twigs and a piece of paper. A June highlight for me seeing a glow worm for the first time in years unfortunately the pictures didn’t come out well!

Hi to all,  June seems to be a busy month with 50th birthday party’s abundant (my own soon to follow) after one such last night, at Grenofen, I had a rare treat following a Hare for about 200 meters up a quiet lane something I haven’t seen in the area for about 3 years. Photo’s below of a birthday weekend near Altarnun Cornwall on the 8th June.

Hi to all, coming up to my third month in the truck, a successful  trip to Meavy Oak fair on the 15th of June a great day/evening  was had by all. With the weather being kind,  I had many visitors to the truck, so a busy day with no photo’s taken!

The end of May and through June has been wonderful on Dartmoor with Stunning Bluebells and May trees (about a month late this year) picture below of early morning stroll with my constant companion Ruby.

Hi to anyone reading, now two months has passed and life is settling down! it has supprissed me how busy I am in my new life, wheather it’s fetching water, firewood, heating water or even just cooking in a confined space.

New purpose made 105 litre stainless steel water tank installed last weekend hurray! Water from a tap, what a novelty.

I have already stayed in some stunning places in the last few weeks with views to die for and also an amazing connection with the countryside I live in, with the cuckoo being heard on the 22nd of April  and two separate stoat sightings  already this year.

I think I am going to like this off grid living.
